Sunday is a coming!

I am looking forward to being back at FBC Lavaca after being away the last 2 Sundays. God has blessed our revival here at Cave Spring Baptist Church. I appreciate Pastor Chip Roberson and his staff. Please pray for us tonight as we wrap up the meetings and may great things happen for the glory of our great God. We have a young man singing in the revival named Daniel Crews and God has given him quite a gift in song. (He is in the photo with Pastor Chip and me.) I hope to have him come and sing at our fall 2008 crusade at FBC Lavaca.

Are you ready FBCL for Sunday. It is a coming. It is a big day for us as we go to 2 worship services and 1 Sunday school. I am excited because it gives us the room to grow. I will start a new series on Sunday entitled Radiant Living and then pick back up with 2 Samuel in a few weeks. I will also finish up my series on the Hebrew names of God on Sunday nights in a couple of weeks. Brother Tony will be preaching for me some on Sunday nights and I will be preaching on Wednesday nights for 6 weeks a new series called the Ezekiel Project. Please, please pray for me and this new series of messages. We will tape them and send to the Southern Baptists of TX and they will produce a study on church renewal where these messages are shown as part of the study called the Ezekiel Project taken from Ezekiel 37 and the vision of dry bones. I am pumped about how things are going at our church. God richy blessed on Sunday. God really blessed Brothers Tony and Terry and the choir and they have got to sing that choir number again!

Hope you enjoy the photos of our time at the Auburn Arkansas game on Saturday night, and other photos of family and ministry. One picture is of Trace and Bud 2 guys I played golf with in VA. Bud is almost 80 years old and hits the golf ball incredibly well. The last picture of our daughter Hannah who is growing up! Pretty like her mother!

I am loving Proverbs in my quiet time in the mornings. Dads, listen to these words from Proverbs 17:6, "Children's children are the crown of old men, and the glory of children is their father." Does that not inspire you to live a godly life so that your children will look at you as their glory? It motivates me to live a righteous life as I know 3 people who are watching me closely to see the way I live the Christian life. Food for thought.

Updates

God blessed our tent revival in Robertson County TX last week.  It was hot still in central TX but we made it through the heat.  I appreciate so much the local pastors in the association.  They are a great group of men and I was so blessed to be able to meet them and spend some time with them.  I have attached some photos of the tent revival and the pastors.

Before going to TX last week I flew to VA and preached a wedding service near Wiliamsburg VA.  Bob and Sophia were married at Eagles Nest, a beautiful place overlooking the water and everything went great.  I have attached a picture of Bob and Sophia Saunders.  The Lord blessed and I was able to share with folks along the way in my travels.  I appreciate everyone praying for me and my family when I am away.  I also had the opportunity to reconnect with some very close friends of mine, Bobby Edmonds and Russell Palmer (see photo of us at the golf course).

I am flying out Sunday to preach a revival meeting at Cave Springs Baptist Church in Roanoke VA.  They asked me to come over a year ago and I am honored to preach there and be with my friend, Pastor Chip Roberson.  Please pray for our time together.

Please pray for me later in the fall as I will be preaching a 6 part series of messages on Wednesday nights at FBC Lavaca on church revitilization.  The Southern Baptists of Texas Convention has asked me to preach these messages and they will use them as part of a 6 week study, and they also shared with me the possibility of this being a national program in churches.  I am so honored and humbled that they asked me to do this.  Please, please pray for me that God would use me for His glory and that He would increase and I would decrease (John 3:30).

Anyone reading Proverbs out there?  I read today a verse that blessed me, "Anxiety in the heart of man casues depression, but a good word makes it glad" (Proverbs 12:25).  Powerful word indeed.

I love you guys and look forward to being back at FBCL and preaching October 21 on living a radiant ChrisDSC02396.JPGtian life in a dark world.DSC02398.JPG

Proverbs Journey and Photos

I have a couple who are joining the Proverbs Journey. Anyone else interested? Chapter 3 is one of my favorites. Verses 5 and 6 are well known to many believers. I also love the first few verses that speak of having God's favor and the favor of man. It comes to those who pursue mercy and truth (vs.3-4). I also like vs. 19 that speaks of the wisdom of God in creating the earth and the heavens. This is my Father's world. He created it and He deserves the praise for His amazing handiwork, not some mindless, purposeless force called macro-evolution.

I am also reading Genesis in my quiet time and read chapter 26 this morning. Check out this awesome verse of promise in vs. 24, "And the LORD appeared to him the same night and said, 'I am the God of your father Abraham; do not fear, for I am with you. I will belss you and multiply your descendants for My servant Abrhama's sake." What wonderful words of life-- "do not fear; I am with you."

Here are a few pictures taken over the last few days of my kids at the tennis tournament in Little Rock, and the golf tournament in Pea Ridge. There is also a picture of Bryant and Leighton's school choir performance. Bryant had a solo and did great!

Proverbs Every Day

For about a year I have been reading a portion of the book of Proverbs each morning in my quiet time with the Lord. It is an amazing book and I am encouraged, blessed, and challenged each time I read it. James 1:5 tells us "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him." I need the Lord's wisdom in my life. As a good friend of mine, Dr. Mark Becton, puts it, "We need daily bread for daily decisions." I want to encourage you who read this blog to try something with me. Try reading a chapter in Proverbs with me each day. There are 31 chapters in Proverbs and most months have 31 days so there is a chapter per day for everyday. And when the LORD speaks to you through His Word and He shows you great things, jot them down and when you can send me a note to let me hear how God is speaking to you.

God blessed us with a wonderful day on Sunday. I love preahcing at FBCL. I appreciate your love for the Lord and His Word. I am enjoying the study on Sunday mornings on the life of King David. His was an amazing life and his story is recorded in the books of 1 and 2 Samuel. I will depart from the study for a few weeks as I preach a mini series on Radiant Living--How to Live the Radiant Christian Life in Today's World. Please pray for me as I continue to study these sermons and as I also have some traveling to do these next few weeks as I am preahcing in TX and VA. I enjoy being able to preach in other churches but I sure love coming back to my home church!

Our 3 children played in a tennis tournament in Little Rock, AR last weekend and it was an intense tournament with great competition. I am so proud of all 3 of our children as they competed with good attitudes. They won some and lost some matches and they were so fun to watch. I am blessed beyond measure with a godly wife in AShley and three teens who love the Lord.

I also had the opportunity to watch Josh Buchanan play in the state golf tournament and he placed 6th out of 72 golfers. He did great and we are proud of Josh and rejoice with Tony and Edie in how the Lord showed Josh favor.

Have a great week and keep us in your prayers please. So much to do! Daily bread (wisdom) for daily decisions!
