Leighton played tennis at the Polar Bear Tournament and did really well last weekend and we are proud of him. God has blessed us with three great teenagers. We are very proud of Hannah, Bryant, and Leighton; they love Christ and their family and they love their church and friends.

Starting Sunday moring March 14 we will begin our 2010 Bible Conference. I am so looking forward to this time of worship and studying the Word of God with some of the most gifted communicators in the country. If you are in the River Valley of Arkansas we invite you to come to our conference. Go to our home page and you can view the times and speakers. Monday-Wednesday night (March 15-17) the gospel trip, the Sisters, will be with us and we are so excited about them coming to sing songs of worship to our King.

I had the privilege of preaching at FBC Hooks, TX near Texarkana Sunday night at the annual conference of the Bowie Baptist Association. It was a blessing to preach with my friend, Dr. John Moldovan, professor of evangelism and missions at Southwestern Seminary. Here is a picture of some of the pastors who attended the conference with Dr. Moldovan and me.

God is so good to us here at FBCL. We have some great ministry events planned for the spring and the summer. And I am so grateful how God continues to bless and open doors for DFEA. Our natioanl broadcast continues to go strongly as we are able to preach to many across our country.

Hope to see you next week at our Bible Conference!

Here at FBCL we are sold out to Christ and preaching His Word unapologetically and reaching this and the next generation with the gospel of Jesus Christ. With this desire to be a radiant church comes opposition and persecution and recently we have been inundated with both. But as I read Paul pressing forward and ahead in the Book of Acts, that is what we are doing here. And God is blessing and moving in awesome ways. Blaine came forward Sunday morning during our invitation with tears streaming down his face. Matt Ward led him to Christ and there he sat Sunday night in church with his wife. They have 5 children and what a blessing to see God save this man. And our team heading to Alaska met Sunday night after church and Cheryl Stem told me today they have 16 going to Alaska from our church this summer. And our folks are so excited about the disaster relief training on March 10 from 6-9 p.m. Our people are catching the vision of being radiant and missional, and God is pleased and Satan is not happy. But our church is known in hell and that is a good thing. Here is an excerpt from my sermon for Sunday March 7 here at FBCL and hope it encourages you to be strong and faithful in the midst of hard times: —“In a tight place? Don’t fear. You are right where He wants you. Furthermore, He will see that you arrive precisely where he wants you to be. If He is able to stir up four hundred seventy-two earthly bodyguards to get Paul from Jerusalem to Caesarea, safely and securely, He will have no trouble getting you wherever, safely and securely. After all, how many angels are there?” (Swindoll, Paul: a Man of Grace and Grit, p. 257)

I am preaching Sunday night March 7 at FBC Hooks TX for an associational meeting and looking forward to being with one of my former students, Pastor Michael King.

This Sunday is Valentines Day and here is an excerpt from my sermon on Sunday explaining some of the origin of the Feb 14th Holiday--

Today is Valentine’s Day and I will share a message the Lord put on my heart this week. Next week we will resume our study in the book of Acts. When you think of Valentines you probably think of cards, candy, flowers, romantic dinners, etc. But the history behind this holiday is an interesting one. Many believe it originates from a Saint Valentine who lived in the 3rd century AD and was a priest in Rome. He assisted persecuted Christians and secretly married Christian couples though the emperor forbid marriage at a time he wanted to increase his army. On Feb 14, around 270 Emperor Claudias arrested him and the emperor actually liked the priest, but when Valentine attempted to lead him to Christ, he was sentenced to die. While in prison the daughter of one of the prison guards befriended him and he wrote a letter to her before he died and ended it with “Love from your Valentine.” In AD 496 Pope Gelasius marked the 14th day of February as a day of celebration in honor of his death. (See http://www.pictureframes.co.uk/Saint-Valentine.aspx and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valentine's_Day.)

A couple of weeks back I had the privilege of speaking at Central Baptist CHurch to many Texas A&M students and they were a delightful bunch to share with. God continues to open doors to share His Word and what a blessing it is! Next Monday I am heading to NW AR to preach to a group of pastors in the area and looking forward to that as well.

We are blessed here at FBC Lavaca. We have such amazing people here and I am blest to serve them. God is stirring in wonderful ways and we are praying and fasting for the Bible Conference coming March 14-17. I invite you to come hear some truly anointing preaching and singing and bring someone with you.

I am grateful to God and for all His blessings in my life. His hand of favor is upon our church and we are experiencing some great days of ministry. God continues to open doors for me to preach with DFEA. On Feb. 1 I took two men in my discipleship group with me as I preached at FBC Hatfield AR, and we had a great time.

I went to the funeral home for visitation tonight of one of our members here at FBL; Mrs. Jessie Harkreader would have been 100 years old on August 9. She played a game at her assisted living home then took a nap and went in the presence of Christ. I was able to share Christ with a family member at the funeral home and pray he comes to Christ.

We had a wonderful day at FBL yesterday, January 24th. God continues to bless us, and we are most grateful. Brother Jamie Freeman did a great job preaching to us on the goodness of God in suffering. Jamie has cerebral palsy, and God is greatly blessing and using him. "Do whatever you want to do in my life Lord to bring You more glory" -- wow, that is profound.

Today I got a note from a lady in Niagara, Wisconsin who watched our broadcast on DirecTV yesterday. It was neat hearing how God spoke to her though the broadcast. I've also recently heard from a missionary friend in Thailand who thanked me for our webcasts. I stand amazed at how God continues to use us in ways that we do not even realize. Blessed be His holy name!

And that is the way it is with Holy Scripture. God spoke to my heart and said be faithful and study. I hope it blesses and encourages you. In this message I reference some of the historic Thanksgiving dates and events in the life of our country. I was so impressed with the ways men like Washington, Lincoln, and others readly recognized God, yes the Lord God Almighty, as the Giver of all blessings. For example here are the closing comments of President Lincoln's presidential proclamation regarding a day of Thanksgiving--

"No human counsel hath devised nor hath any mortal hand worked out these great things. They are the gracious gifts of the Most High God, who, while dealing with us in anger for our sins, hath nevertheless remembered mercy.

It has seemed to me fit and proper that they should be solemnly, reverently and gratefully acknowledged as with one heart and voice by the whole American people. I do therefore invite my fellow citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next, as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens. And I recommend to them that while offering up the ascriptions justly due to Him for such singular deliverances and blessings, they do also, with humble penitence for our national perverseness and disobedience, commend to his tender care all those who have become widows, orphans, mourners or sufferers in the lamentable civil strife in which we are unavoidably engaged, and fervently implore the interposition of the Almighty Hand to heal the wounds of the nation and to restore it as soon as may be consistent with the Divine purposes to the full enjoyment of peace, harmony, tranquility and Union.

In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand, and caused the seal of the United States to be affixed.

Done at the city of Washington, this third day of October, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-three, and of the independence of the United States the eighty-eighth."

Since 1863, Thanksgiving has been observed annually in the United States. (Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thanksgiving_(United_States)

Yes we are so blessed in this great country because of God. To remove Him from the fabric of our country as some are determined to do would be like removing the computer screen from the computer. Without the screen nothing can be seen, and if we refuse to acknowledge God in our blessed nation then we are unable to see who we really are!

Happy Thanksgiving!

I got to thinking about some of the good things God is doing in our church tonight and it is really encouraging--Tony will be preaching the Word of God and sharing with our people the truths of Philippians; Kenny is training 42 people on how to share their faith; Drew is teaching our teens the truth of Scripture; Stu is teaching the children the protoevangelium tonight! Robert Hill is discipling people in the the key area of stewardship; Wayne Schulte is teaching a group the importance of godly marriages, and Terry is not only teaching people new songs but also teaching them what these songs mean, and leading our choir to be worshippers. If our goal is to be radiant and focus upward, inward, and outward then we are on target; by the grace and goodness of God we are on target.
