Christmas Pillowcases & Quilts for the Homebound & Nursing Home Members
Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at 11:06AM First of all, Merry CHRISTmas everybody! I wanted to let the church know that we have now started our Nursing Home and Homebound Ministry. I met with those who felt led to take part in this ministry two weeks ago to officially get the ministry kicked off before the Holidays. Please pray for this group of volunteers as they minister in love for those who are no longer able to come to the worship services. Each team member is responsible for making sure that their nursing home or home bound church member knows that they are loved and prayed for and have not been forgotten.
At this kick off meeting each volunteer was given a home made quilt to take to their homebound brother or sister in Christ. Just a few months ago we were able to deliver home made quilts to our Nursing Home residents, and you can still read that blog on down below. The ministry team also has homemade holiday pillowcases to give out as soon as i can get them to the team.
Now, some of you may be wondering just who made all these quilts and pillowcases. I do know who made the quilts that have been given over the last few months and these that went out two weeks ago.
Her name is Beatrice Keef and she is Bonnie Taylor's mother. I started asking some questions and found out that Ms. Beatrice has been doing this sort of thing for a long time. She is currently making items for cancer patients. She has taken a great talent and gave it to the Lord Jesus to help make others feel better (and stay alot warmer too). I can remember my grandmother Bailey would sit and work on quilts for hours and those hours would turn into days until she got it complete. So, Ms. Keef, I know that you have not asked to be noticed for the work that you have done or the time that you have given, but THANK YOU for giving to the LORD. I see the tears of joy on the faces and all the smiles that have come from these gifts that you have made. Just know that you have made a difference.
Here are a few pictures of Ms. Keef working on a quilt.
We have several ladies working on the pillowcases, but i'm not sure of all the names, so i won't try and post them until i have them all. Ladies, know that these gifts of love are very much appreciated by our elderly.
In closing this blog out i am reminded of a verse of scripture in Philippians 2:5. "Let this mind be in you which is also in Christ Jesus." To the people who take part in this ministry, you are never more Christ-like than when you are giving. During this Christmas season we are reminded of the greatest gift ever given, Jesus Christ. We celebrate His birth as we remember His death and resurrection for all of mankind. His way of thinking was always to do the Father's will, which was to love people.
God Bless,
Merry Christmas to all and to all, I'll blog you later!
I love you guys,
Kenny
