Homecoming at Carroll Memorial

Last weekend I had the privilege of preaching homecoming services in my first church, Carroll Memorial Baptist Church in Fayetteville, North Carolina. It was an awesome time of seeing old friends and experiencing the power of God. The service was packed and God moved in a huge way. Everything was good: the music, the food, the testimonies, the food, the fellowship, and oh yeah, the food. In many ways, I didn't want the day to end. If there was one thing that stood out to me, it was the significance of preaching the Word of God. Carroll Memorial is a church that loves to hear Bible preaching. In a day when many are saying that expository, verse by verse preaching, is ineffective, and boring, I find an absolute hunger for it. I was greatly encouraged to see the pens and notebooks out and notes being made in the margins of Bibles. God forbide that I become a story-teller or a comedian. I want to faithfully preach God's Word without compromise.
