Update on Madison
I just spoke to my dear friend, Jason Sellers, who is the father of Madison Sellers, the baby for which we have been praying. He shared that the tumor on Madison's liver was completely removed, but there is no guarentee that the cancer will not return. Please continue to pray for this precious child and her parents, Jason and Emilie. During our conversation, I was encouraged by Jason's faith in our Lord. God has given him a measure of grace to deal with this difficult situation that is overwhelming. It reminded me that Jesus is sufficient. He is sufficient for any and all circumstances.
Maximizing Time
My wife put a collage of pictures together of my son's state golf tournament. One of the pictures shows me walking away from the camera. This picture has been placed beside a picture of Josh walking away from the camera. When I saw the picture, two things really stood out to me. First, I couldn't believe how old I looked and secondly, I was floored at how much I looked like my dad when he was my age. Yesterday, I stopped at McDonalds for coffee before work. When the young girl rang up my coffee, she had given me the senior citizen's discount. Ouch!! The truth is (even though I'm not close to senior citizen discounts) that I am getting older. This has caused me to reflect upon how short life is. It seems only yesterday that my dad was watching me play sports and now I'm watching my son play. James 4:14 says in part, "For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. I pray that I would maximize short time on earth for the glory of God. I don't want to spend my time on petty things. God, help me to focus on the things with eternal value, so that at life's end, I won't look back feeling that I wasted my alloted time.
Urgent Prayer Needed
Please pray for Madison Sellers. She is the 1 month old daughter of one of my dear friends, Jason Sellers, and his wife Emilie. A malignant tumor has been found on Madison's liver and is being removed today. She is very young for surgery and it looks like chemotherapy will follow. Pray that the healer will completely heal her. Thanks church.
Great Revival in Tacoma
This weekend I preached at revival at Tacoma First Baptist Church. The church itself is very interesting. It is primarily a Korean church and most of its services are conducted in Korean. The church runs about 1,500 people in the three morning services. The middle service is an English service. Those attending are primarily military retirees who married Koreans, although there are certainly members who do not fit this description. It is an awesome church and we had an unbelievable revival. The theme was primarily unity. I preached as series of messages dealing with barriers to unity in the church. Each service was filled with the Spirit and we saw a great response at the altar. God really broke through barriers and seemed to bind the church together.
Perhaps the most significant ministry of the weekend was with the pastors. Pastor Richard Stidham is the English Ministry pastor. He is a true man of God and is doing a wonderful work for the Lord. I believe the Lord moved is his life and also in the life of his sweet wife, Marilyn. The Senior Pastor is a Korean gentleman by the name of Pastor Moon. He has faithfully led the church for close to 30 yrs. He attended each service and seemed to be blessed. On Saturday night I preached about sins of the tongue. God moved in a huge way. At the end of the services, I asked all the pastors to stand in the front and for anyone who had mistreated them to come and apologize and for anyone who wanted to speak a blessing over them to come. This was probably the highlight of the week.
After preaching Sunday morning, (they have no PM services)I met with about 35-40 leaders in the church to discuss church growth, evangelism, and church leadership. I especially enjoyed the almost 2 hour time of question and answers. I thank the Lord for giving me some insight to share with this great church. They have invited me back in May to preach and teach an evangelism conference and to lead them in evangelism projects and for further meetings with their leadership. To God be the glory for all that He accomplished this weekend. Thanks church for giving me another opportunity for the gospel.
First Night of Revival
I preached the first of the revival services and God moved in a big way. The theme for the week is "One in Christ, Working Together." I preached on unity last night from John 17:20-23. The altar was filled with people making decisions for Christ at the end. The pastor seemed to be well pleased with the response. I will preach this morning on "From Sin to Service" and then tonight on "Don't let Your Tongue Lick You." Please continue to pray for God's power to fall.
I can't believe how cold is it here.
