The God Who Provides

The God Who Provides

October 23, 2020

I can count on many occasions where we have been in need of something, whether it be some extra income to cover medical bills or a letter of appreciation when I’ve been down. In every circumstance the Lord has shown me that He is Jehovah Jireh, the God Who Provides.

Genesis 22:13-14
And Abraham lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, behind him was a ram, caught in a thicket by his horns. And Abraham went and took the ram and offered it up as a burnt offering instead of his son. So Abraham, called the name of that place, “The Lord will provide”, as it is said to this day, “On the mount of the Lord it shall be provided.”

The account of Abraham offering his son Isaac as a sacrifice to the Lord is still on the greatest moments of faith in the bible. The Lord was testing Abraham’s faith to see if he was willing to give up his only son. The author of Hebrews tells us that Abraham’s faith was so strong that he believed that if he sacrifice Isaac, God would raise him from the dead (Hebrews 11:17-19).

Abraham’s faith that the Lord would provide a sacrifice was evident in verses 6-8 when he told Isaac “that the Lord would provide a sacrifice”. Right then and there Abraham believed God was his Provider in all things. He held fast to the promises that God already told him and knew God would provide the sacrifice needed.
So many times in our lives we find ourselves looking to God to provide a need in our lives. However, when that need is met, how often do we stop and acknowledge Him who provided?

Too often we forget that the Lord our God has provided all we need for life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3). He has provided for us the only way of salvation! Jesus is the Lamb of God. The sacrifice we need that the Father provides. Don’t ever forget that God has and continues to provide all we need, for He is Jehovah Jireh!

When was the last time you saw the Lord provide for you what you needed?
If you can’t think of anything of hand, reflect on the salvation of Jesus Christ’s sacrifice on the cross, our ultimate provision from Jehovah Jireh.

O Lord, you are Jehovah Jireh! Thank you for providing for me in all ways. But most of all thank you for the gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ. Thank you provided the sacrifice we need to take away our sins and bring us in relationship with you.
