Any job is easier when you have the right tools. Have you ever been working on a project and needed one tool, but you had to make it work with something else? On a recent disaster relief mission trip, one of our team encountered a man attempting to cut down a tree that had fallen on his home with a machete. Talk about not having the right tool for the job.

As a follower of Jesus, you are equipped with exactly what you need.  However, in certain situations, you will encounter folks that will try to convince you that you need something other than what God has supplied for you.

1 Samuel 17:37–40.  [37] And David said, "The LORD who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine." And Saul said to David, "Go, and the LORD be with you!"  [38] Then Saul clothed David with his armor. He put a helmet of bronze on his head and clothed him with a coat of mail, [39] and David strapped his sword over his armor. And he tried in vain to go, for he had not tested them. Then David said to Saul, "I cannot go with these, for I have not tested them." So David put them off. [40] Then he took his staff in his hand and chose five smooth stones from the brook and put them in his shepherd's pouch. His sling was in his hand, and he approached the Philistine.

In verse 37, David has recalled the Lord's provision to him in former battles. In verse 38, David is dressed for battle, though he doesn't trust his armor. It's big and bulky and is slowing him down. Can you imagine what it would have been like for David to have gone to battle and not be able to move freely? How often do we look to others to tell us what we need rather than trusting how God has already equipped us?

David removes the armor and trusts his life to a sling and five smooth stones from a nearby brook. How many times in David's boredom had he hurled rocks like this while alone in the pasture? Let me remind you that you are gifted, prepared, and equipped to be able to stand against the giants that would seek to destroy you and others. Trust the Lord and use the skills, gifts, and abilities he has enabled within you to stand today.

Lord, you are enough. Thank you for equipping me and for being my supply for every need I have. As I trust you and walk in your way, please help me walk in strength, dignity, and integrity. Thank you for your presence and work in me. -AMEN
