Have you ever been caught in a rainstorm without an umbrella? Wouldn’t it be amazing if the umbrella were always there when it rained? Likewise, it would be great if a jacket would just appear when it was cold, or a bottle of sunscreen would appear when the sun started to scorch! While this just sounds silly, there is a shelter like no other. A spiritual place of safety that is always waiting for us.
I love you, O Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. I call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised, and I am saved from my enemies.
The Psalms are rich with truths of God’s love and mercy. Numerous songs, poems and paintings have been inspired from Psalm 18. The words are so true! The Lord is my rock and my fortress and deliverer, my God. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold! But like an umbrella in a rainstorm, it’s only useful if you USE IT!
Have you ever found yourself in the middle of a difficult decision or challenging situation and wondered why God had not delivered you or why He wasn’t protecting you? Sometimes God allows us to go through difficult situations to grow us and teach us. Other times, He awaits us to call out His name and seek His face so He can do what only He can do! He wants to be our refuge and our deliverer!
Look at the middle of verse 2, ”I take refuge” and the beginning of verse 3 “I call upon the Lord.” These are actions! Are you taking refuge? Are you calling upon the Lord? My challenge for you today is to let go of control and let God take control!
I love you, Lord, my strength! Thank you for being my rock and my fortress and my deliverer. You are my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge. You are my shield, my salvation and stronghold. Allow me to witness Your mighty hand in every aspect of my life.
In Jesus name- Amen.
